The New School Room

Welcome to our new school room.  I took all these pictures at night, so the lighting isn't very good.  The most accurate indication of the wall color is the very first photo.  The doors still need to be painted.  We also haven't bought blinds or hung pictures on the wall, yet.  All in due time.

This is the view as you walk in.  From the right: Bear's desk; door to my husband's office; tall EXPEDIT shelf of teacher manuals and math books, amongst other things; shelf from downstairs to store sensorial materials (the language drawers are on the top); STUVA MALAD box with STUVA bench functions as my husband's filing drawer and as our geography shelf (mostly for J-jo); our All About Spelling board in the corner, which I will probably hang - maybe; J-jo's desk (a LACK side table that was in Bear's room as a bedside table); the paper storage unit with the geometric cabinet was from downstairs (ALEX drawer unit - without the casters).

This is the view from the STUVA bench.  From Right: door to hallway, a peek at the closet, Bear's desk (it's become a little bit more cluttered since we've started using it), and a peek into my husband's office.  Yes, he works standing up.  The desk is two VIKA ALEX drawer units with one of the VIKA AMON table tops. The chair isn't working. It's too low for Bear right now.  I'm thinking of getting another LACK side table until she grows a bit.

I love the drawer units and they store all of Bear's subjects, minus art.

This is J-jo's Montessori corner. I hoped to fit sensorial in this corner too, but it didn't quite work out.  The shelves are the Carson shelves from Target (online only in the white).  I did think of adding shelves as did My Boys' Teacher (What Did We Do All Day?), but the truth is we won't be doing Montessori Elementary so I left them as they were.  The bookcase on the right has the language materials (I put his All About Reading things there too), with the bottom shelf being three practical life works, and the left bookcase has the math materials. The tray under the math bookcase holds the short bead chains.  I still have Bear's math materials there, but in reality, she doesn't use much of it in the traditional Montessori sense.  I actually much prefer the Singapore method of teaching mathematical understanding and highly recommend Knowing and Teaching Elementary Mathematics by Liping Ma for my reasons why.
The work mats are between the bookcases, but in reality, J-jo just ends up using the striped mat in front of the shelves.
We are loving doing school here.
