What we are reading

The first of December had me bring out the two Christmas books Tiger Tales sent us in October.  I loved One Snowy Day from the moment I first saw the cover.  Who can resist a cute penguin?  This board book with a padded cover is perfect for J-jo’s eager hands.  The story tells the story of Penguin’s one snowy day through counting phrases.  “1 wooly hat…2 warm mittens…3 happy friends…4 fast sleds….”   The length is perfect for a toddler’s attention span.  The story is mostly told through illustrations (complete with shiny snowflakes).  I have not yet been disappointed by illustrations of a Tiger Tales book.  Bear has enjoyed it too.  She loves the illustrations and can read it to herself when the mood strikes.

The second book is ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.  I like the thick pages and the glittery snow in the illustrations.  This is the story of Christmas Eve at a mouse house.  The beautiful watercolor illustrations by Kat Whelan just jump out of the page.  It is definitely a nice addition to our Christmas collection.

  2. I just love snowy penguins - books or movies. We found a great series of DVDs from our library called the Ozzie Boos, darling little penguins teaching great lessons. I already put this One Snowy Day on hold at our library! Thanks for sharing.
