Clasical Conversations Cycle 1 - Week 3

History:
Greek and Roman Gods -  we actually only need to know 6 of the major ones.  Someone on CC Connected, which is a subscription file sharing site for those who use Classical Conversations, has made flashcards of the Greek and Roman gods we need to memorize.  You could easily make some using the cute pictures on this website, which is the website I plan on using to teach Bear more about each god. There are quite a few sites with coloring pages, but of the ones I encountered, this site was my favorite.

Books:
The Gods and Goddesses of Olympus

D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths

Great lesson plan here (lessons 2 and 3 would work with my 5-to-be). I like the mythology biographical poem (lesson 3)  I used this type of poem a lot with my third graders for literature.

Geography:
Hebrew Empire - after all this time of looking for maps of the area to be memorized, I realized that the map I needed is on page 223 of the Foundations Guide.  Lol. Well, that will save me a lot of time!

Science:
The Animal Cell - we'll be making a model of the animal cell. I'm thinking we will make an animal cell pizza instead (with a jello plant cell for dessert).

I found a parts of the cell lapbook component at Cynce's Place. She also links quite a few cell and DNA videos.

Here's a cell parts song.

And a diagram of the  cross section of the animal cell for reference.

My weekly resources will now only include Science and History as the maps for Geography are in the Foundations Guide and I have posted about all the English Grammar resources here and here.

  1. I am curious to see how Bear will take to this curriculum. What I find a bit objectionable is that it's all about what "someone" thinks children should know rather than what they want to know.

  2. Love that you're outlining this on your blog. Especially including your pinterest finds. Brilliant!
