Variation 1
Using our All About Spelling tiles and our miniature objects for learning to read and write, I chose about eight different cvc words to hide in last year's Easter eggs.
The correct letters are there; they just need to be put in the correct order to make the word. I thought J-jo would be ready, but he isn't. I still do this activity with him when he is willing, as I did with Bear when she was that age (scroll down a bit if you visit the link). I figure he's absorbing some of it and that when he is ready, it will all click.
Variation 2:
The letters are in the egg, but the words are more challenging and involve a double letter phonogram. This was meant for Bear, but it was still too easy.
Variation 3:
Only objects are in the eggs. Bear gets a slip of paper from the basket and writes the word herself (this is mostly because after filling all the other eggs, I ran out of AAS tiles in spite of owning three sets of them, but Bear wanted more objects for which to write names).
Great idea! I will have to pin this and try it with my daughter- i just love it! Your blog is so inspirational- i love all your ideas! keep up the great work!

ReplyDeleteGreat fun with words! Where did you get the miniature items? Here and there or from a resource?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
@Sarah, definitely here and there. I had a dollhouse as a child and also a collection of Playmobil. A lot of our miniature stuff comes from that. Also, when we lived in Costa Rica, I bought a few miniatures, like the green teacup. Scour your house and you will be surprised at how many little toys will work for language works.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to add though that Montessori Services does sell miniatures.
