Our school room is currently adjacent and open to the playroom. It is also on the main floor of the house. When we were mainly doing practical life and sensorial work, being open to the playroom wasn't really a problem. The kids moved fluidly between the two and their play was also learning. As Bear gets older and as I start to expect more from her with regards to school, being adjacent to the playroom becomes more and more difficult. Having the school room there on the first floor with no door to close it off has become more and more of a challenge during play dates as well.
Our house has a big area of wasted space over the living room. (Excuse Bear's messy hair, the overexposure and blurriness, and the state of the room - I forgot to take a before photo until we had already begun moving everything out, my settings weren't set right on the camera, and Bear had just woken up.)
The work to close it off and make an extra room over the living room started today. We won't be doing much schooling when the workmen are here; it sure is loud!
Here and here are some ideas I am considering for our new school room. (I really need to take the time to reorganize that second pinterest board.) We are also including a big storage closet in some of the space and a small office for my work-from-home husband. Our contractor, so far, has been amazing. Stay tuned for updates.
We're so excited for you guys! It's going to be a great space. Can't wait to come over and see it.
ReplyDeleteOooo, A friend of mine has been considering doing this to her two-story family room. I'll have to send her over here.
ReplyDeleteNow THAT is commitment to homeschooling. Major construction.
