Preschool

Here are some things we've done besides reading (working through the first grade list from Houghton Mifflin) and math (addition facts on the Addition Strip Board
and unlimited bead exercises).
I purchased these French fruit three part cards from Montessori Print Shop.  I figured, what was $1.59 compared to two hours or more of my time.  The cards came with SO many (26) fruits and they are really nice.  I pulled out 6 for which I had matching play food and set it up as a work for J-jo.  I included the word cards to allow Bear to use the work as well.  So after J-jo matched the objects to the pictures, Bear came in and matched up the words.  She can't read in French yet.  This is simply a matching game - matching the word card to the word on the picture card.

I made tape letters on our floor, laid out in a circle to run around on like crazy:)  Bear is trying to teach J-jo his letter sounds.
We've played outside every day this week.  We even went for a hike yesterday and a nice long walk today.  But the one thing that has kept them busiest out there is the sand box and the homemade moon sand. (What a great idea from Fairy Dust Teaching!)

The homemade moonsand was SO easy. I used an empty applesauce cup to measure out the 6 cups of sandbox sand, 3 cups of cornstarch and 1.5 cups of water.  I had to play around with the amount of water.  If you add too much it becomes sandy oobleck.  If this happens, leave out in the sun a bit and it will dry to the right consistency.
We planted small silk flowers in the sand box.  It still has the aquarium rock "jewels" from last week.  They didn't all get sifted out.
I'm still trying hard to get J-jo to do art every day.  Here they are working on an impasto project which will be written about in detail on Tuesday.
Bear did the rectangle drawer from the geometric cabinet.  I'm trying to have her use it a bit more.

  5. Matching words is great for sight recognition. I've been writing Korean words on index cards to match with the book we've been reading and so far it's worked well.

The homemade moon sand looks great!
