Preschool Wrap Up

It's hard to get information about what goes on at school.  At home, Bear's done quite a few learning activities, but mostly I just let her have free play time with her brother.  In the past month since she started school I have noticed that she plays much better with her brother. I think these may be photos from the past two weeks.

Reading:

Work with phonograms.  I made phonogram booklets as well to help her with the homophones (for example "ai", "ay", "a-e")
 Labeling the farm.

 Art:
Bear said she was drawing like Picasso, that she was in her blue period. lol.

 Math:
She did short bead chains at school and wanted to do them all at home again.  She got tired by the time she got to the 5 chain.
The following was a long work.  Bear wanted to count all the pink beads (sets of three) in the decanomial box.  We played the snake game to figure out how many there were.  I'll write a post for Monday on how to play the Snake game.  It could be played with printouts of the bead material.

 Writing:
Self-initiated writing of hill (she turned the two 'l's into a hill), pie, and ling (as in "ding a ling a ling").  I walked in and found her illustrating them.
She wrote this sentence on her on.  I asked her to look at the "ai" booklets to help her choose the right "ai" spelling for the word "day".  I showed her how to write "one", but she did the rest.  Srm is "storm".  Since she doesn't pronounce the second consonants in words with consonant blends, she doesn't hear that there should be a 't' after the s.

Drawing bunnies and foxes on hills.

 Play:

We've been playing a lot of Mancala.
The weather was so nice that the kids were in the sand box all the time after naps.
The weather finally turned and on a very gloomy day, we built a fort.  Bear is hiding under the blanket.

  2. Love her drawings!

I can't wait to hear about the snake game; I've heard it mentioned a lot, but have never read any specifics about how to play it.

How great that she can play Mancala - I love that game. I'll have to get our set out and see if Matthew is interested in it.

  6. Awesome week. Bear is doing great with writing. Anna is spelling is quite similar, and I just read that it is very typical for new writers to use just a couple of letters from the word. I am curious about the snake game too!
