Montessori Monday

Bear's obsession this past week has been the bead stair.  She loves to color the bead stair after building it.  I love this because it is refining her fine motor control as she colors and counts.
If you don't own the Montessori beads, you can make your own with pony beads and pipe cleaners (which is what I did before investing in Montessori material).  This activity is also good for recognition of set amounts (like knowing automatically that the brown bar is 8) and measuring.
The bead stair coloring sheet can be found here (along with many other free printables), but we switched to this one because the first one for some reason only goes to seven.  (Scroll down a bit to find the one at Walk Beside Me).

I ordered a Neinhuis catalog and Bear pored through it for a long time, exclaiming, "That's gorgeous," and "That's beautiful," on every page.  I think she heard me exclaim over the beautiful presentation of the catalog, hehe.  My little parrot.

I really can't get over how beautiful that catalog is.  It was free; all you have to do is contact them and request it.

  5. I want to try and do this stair - I think Anna will like the "hands-on" component of it. I doubt that she will care much about coloring though :)

  6. Thanks for linking up to Montessori Monday! I downloaded the bead stair worksheet; I'm sure Short Pants will enjoy working with it once we break out our bead stair. So cute about the catalog!

  7. Hi, I love your blog. I am starting to homeschool my almost three daughter. I am attempting to do Montessori. Can I ask you a question? How do you plan your activities? You seemed so organized in what you present. Do you plan units?

I am finding it hard to get everything together say for a unit on Africa or counting. I would love to have ideas that are planned out and organized. Instead I always seem to have last minute ideas, but not everything on hand to complete them. Thanks, Nicole

  8. @Brightsight. I don't have your email address, but to answer your questions, I think I'll do a post about it later this week.
