We've been reading a lot of math picture books lately. A few days ago we read Tana Hoban's Cubes, Cones, Cylinders, and Spheres.
The book inspired me to get the geometric solids from our shelf and match them to the beautiful photographs in the book.
Sorry, that one is a bit blurry.
Then both bear and I were inspired to find solids in the schoolroom.
Mr. Potato Head is a bit of an ovoid once you remove all his parts :)
Joyful Learner also did a geometric solid search, but developed it a bit further by using Venn Diagrams and discussing attributes, something we'll do when Bear is a bit more willing. I tried discussing the attributes of the different solids a couple weeks back (like, "look at the cone and the cylinder, do you see how they both have a circle....) and she was not interested. I love the way Joyful Learner did her lesson.
Thanks for crediting me! And thanks to you, now I know what an ovoid is! :)
ReplyDeleteOvoid = Mr. Potato Head
I like the sorting search, and I tried something like this with Anna, but she was so not interested. I think that she always takes the sorting tasks as some sort of a test, and she doesn't like testing. But I liked how the book looks like - we'll look for it in the library.
