I love this toy form Melissa and Doug, but I found three ways to recreate it.
The first uses her magnets and we do this on her cookie sheet so the letters don't slide around.
The second uses clothespins and helps build the muscles in the fingers.
The third idea uses flat marbles. I wrote a letter on each of the marbles - you have to write them backward with a permanent marker. This idea came from Activity Mom.
Three great ways to improvise this toy!
ReplyDeleteI like your way of doing it better :) Less toys to store. More uses for what you already have.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this! I'm planning on buying the Melissa and Doug See and Spell for Christmas, but I wanted to do some activities like this before then. This is perfect!
ReplyDeleteMore great ideas,thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteBottlecups would work too :) We do some letter forming with magnetic letters here too.
ReplyDeleteAll three are brilliant ideas!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this! Way better than Melissa and Doug's.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas. I like that you have come up with three different ways to vary the one activity.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely to read what you and your family are doing for Advent.
Last year I made a Giving and Gratitude Calendar and we will be using it again this year. It was made using decorated little treasure chests and each day we stored either tangible objects that we were grateful for; little notes; photos, or stories. After Christmas I used the contents from each treasure chest to make a book. It is such a special keepsake for us.I wrote about it here:

Your watercolor ornaments are so sweet. I like the idea of placing a piece of yarn (everyday during advent) into the bed for baby Jesus.
