What Bear is Reading

Bear loves Robert McCloskey books.

This week we read
Make Way for Ducklings
This has always been one of my favorite stories.

Blueberries for Sal

- I love the parallelism. The pattern for Little Sal and her mother parallels the way the part for Little Bear and his mother is written.

One Morning in Maine

This is a story of Little Sal, no longer little, and her first tooth falling out.

I love Robert McCloskey's illustrations. They leave a lot to the imagination because there is no color, but there is a lot of detail that keeps Bear busy looking and studying. They are very beautiful. I love his choice of vocabulary and the way his stories just flow.

  1. I never heard of that third book. We'll have to look for it, because I love the first two you reviewed!

  3. We've got all of these, but last time I tried to read them, The Littlest Apple wasn't interested. Maybe it is time to give them a try again! I love these books, and hope my son will too. :)

  5. Thanks for linking to me! We read Make Way for Ducklings, and Anna was only mildly interested. The story is rather long, with a lot of references that are unfamiliar to her, and now she is more into the story that into pictures. I keep hearing very good things about Blueberries for Sal, but it continues to be missing from the library - rather annoying, since I really want to check it out.
