I purposely had less planned this week as I was curious to see where Bear would lead us. Also, Baby Boy seemed to want to be held more than usual this week, which made it challenging to get anything done. We definitely did not accomplish one each of math or alphabet activities per day, but it really doesn't matter, she is still learning tons!
Alphabet/Language:
We didn't do any structured activities. Bear just wasn't interested. She did watch Leapfrog's The Letter Factory a few times.
We read lots of books. Her favorites this week can be seen here.Numbers/Math Concepts:
Bear chose number activities quite a bit this week. She fed the ants, played the icecream graphing game, and we also played this cat grid game a few times. We always "graph" our results now.A game I've started with Bear is to run from one numeral to another on the patio. I write them on the patio with sidewalk chalk and call out a number, singing the verse of the number song that corresponds to the numeral. She can usually recognize a number if I sing the verse, but not without the verse.
The top left corner is a gross motor activity: hop to or run to the shape and match the little shape with the big shape.- The puzzle match - top left
- Taking her puzzles out of the frame to make it more challenging.
- Sorting farm and zoo animal

Bear played pretend SO much this week. She filled her car with marbles and said she was filling it with gas.
She has a ton of dolls that were given to us, but since before the baby was born, she uses a blanket and scrunches it all up and this is her baby. She gives it a bath, shushes it to sleep, puts it in the baby's swing, in her doll stroller, and just carries it EVERYWHERE!

Being a Big Sister
Baby Boy is 10 weeks old. Recently Bear has shown a bit of jealousy, to be expected, but she still has so many sweet moments with him. I thought I'd share these photos of her reading and playing with him.Science
We looked at leaves and I showed her the different parts. Then we pressed our leaves in playdough. She wasn't that interested because she just wanted to make "cakes."
Geography
We read A Funny Little Woman and Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears. The first takes place in Japan, and the second in West Africa so we looked at the map to see which continents those belonged to.
I also printed out a map of North America and showed her where she lives in relation to her grandparents.

It still seems like you did a lot! I love the big sister pictures - so sweet!! We love grid games too - I have a post about one scheduled for tomorrow. :) And I think I'll talk about the different parts of leaves with M this week - thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteSeems like you guys still had a busy week :) I really like the potato prints and the cheerio tower. What is the cheerio tower made of?
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that your baby was so little. You accomplished a lot for having Bear and the baby! When M was that little, I thought I was doing good if both kids were fed and relatively clean. :) D had jealousy issues for a while too. Now that M is walking and can "play" with him, they are the best of friends. I love all of your projects for the week!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you organized your post. Bear sure had lots of learning going on this week!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog today. I got my sandpaper letters from Lakeshore Learning Store.
The big sister pictures are adorable! I really like the idea of pressing leaves in playdough. We will have to try that when I do a leaf theme with Mikey Bear.
ReplyDeleteI love your art and fine motor skills activities - Bear is growing to be a very hands-on girl. Her pictures with baby brother are very sweet.
ReplyDeleteI really love how you organize these activities with your little ones!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking back to me for the grid games, and the graphing at the end is a worthwhile extension!
