We finally have enough Christmas books to do a book a day for Advent this year! We've been collecting at consignment sales and Goodwill for three years now. I am beyond excited and so are the kids. They are going to help wrap most of them, but I have a handful that I will wrap as they are recent purchases that the children haven't seen yet. Yay for surprises! Here is our list:
1.Merry Christmas, Strega Nona
2.Angel Pig and the Hidden Christmas
3.One Special Tree
4.Merry Christmas, Curious George!
5.Saint Nicholas: The Real Story of the Christmas Legend
6.Gingerbread Baby We'll be making gingerbread the day we read this.
7.The Tale of Three Trees: A Traditional Folktale
8.A Pinata in a Pine Tree: A Latino Twelve Days of Christmas
9.How the Grinch Stole Christmas
10.Strega Nona's Gift
11.Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree
12.The Donkey's Dream
13.Home for Christmas
14.The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
15.Winter Days in the Big Woods
16.Christmas in the Big Woods
17.The Christmas Star
18.Country Angel Christmas
19.The Friendly Beasts
20.The Crippled Lamb

Some other books we own that I will leave out all month are Deck the Halls and Jingle Bells by Tiger Tales and a few French Christmas books, like Le Noel de Petunia (It's title in English is Pippin the Christmas Pig). Of course, we will also be signing out other Christmas books from the library, because my kids just can't get enough of books!
What's on your must-read list for December?
Hmmmm..... The Christmas Cat. You know, I"m trying to think what all is on my must read list, and I have to admit I can't remember it right now. I know we have a bunch that we read every year, and I'm just drawing a blank on them.
ReplyDeleteGracias!!!! I was looking in our library, both, on books and dvd... to prepare our Christmas days and nights!!! Gracias!!
ReplyDeleteThese are great suggestions for when my kiddos get a bit bigger, thanks! We are starting a book a day from the day after thanksgiving to Christmas this year too. I'll blog about mine in a couple weeks for my toddler and preschooler.
ReplyDeleteI only starting building up my collection last year. I can't wait until we have enough to do for the month! You have some great ones there!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. We have the same approach with 24 books, and I am looking forward to pulling them out. We don't wrap them - I don't like to waste paper. I have so many favorites, it's hard to count them all!
ReplyDeleteWe do the same thing. We have a storybook advent. I wrap the books in purple paper, pink for the third week. We try and do activities a few days a week that tie in with the books. We take science and history off for Advent to have time for this. We also tie in our feast days with our books during the days of Advent (St. Nicholas, St. Lucia, Our Lady of Guadalupe, etc...) Lot of fun! We start on the first Sunday of Advent and to to the Epiphany.
