Thursday is our CC lapbook day.
I set up the lapbook components ahead of time in three manila folders, all paper clipped together. Now on Sunday evening, when I prep for the week ahead, I take out the lapbook components I will need for the week and place them in the Thursday folder. The components go into Bear's first drawer of the day, as the lapbook is an independent activity for her. She writes out her memory work and glues the components into the lapbook.
Skip counting.
The geography component is by far my favorite one.
I just used plain manila folders, but colorful ones would be great. Maybe for the next segment.
I love the photos at Wisdom and Righteousness of her samples, as she has taken the time to print everything on various colors and weights of paper.

I took the lazy way out and printed everything on regular white copy paper. It just made life much simpler. It was a lot of cutting, but I wanted to save Bear the hassle of it. Plus, it allowed me to read the directions for each component ahead of time and be sure I understood it. The directions are clear to follow and Karen even gives recommendations for which component would be best on paper, which would be best on card stock, and which would look best on colored paper.
The lapbooks are separated into four books - one for each 6 week segment of CC. I like this as it will give us something to interact with for each previously completed 6 week segment. Last year, I found it was hard to stay on top of reviewing the older material. I am hoping that between the Memory Box and the Lapbooks, we will have review covered.
Not only is all the memory work included, but Karen has taken the time to add lapbook components for the child to record things like their favorite science experiment, samples of each of the drawing lessons, and some other things, making the lapbook not only a place to interact with memory work, but a sort of record of the whole year. It will be interesting to see in three years the things that will stand out to Bear and look back to this year's lapbook for a comparison.
I am so happy with this lapbook. The good thing is that it's not too late to get yours, even if your CC community has started. You could catch up on the first lapbook during the week off after Week 6, giving your student a great review opportunity during the week off. The lapbooks can be purchased here.
Disclaimer: I was provided with a PDF download of the all 4 of the Cycle 1 lapbooks. I was not required to write a positive review and I was not compensated in other ways for this review.
Those look so cool! I might have to figure out how to use those even if I'm not a CC'er next year when we start up Year 1 of the history cycle again.
ReplyDeleteMe gusta, It's looks interesting!
ReplyDeleteI like the history components! We've never done lapbooks but I know many homeschoolers love them. This looks great.
