What we are Reading

This week we've been reading the rest of our Tiger Tales books.

The Bear with Sticky Paws Goes to School - When a little girl is tired of school, the Bear with Sticky Paws arrives to take her to his school. She soon tires of the lack of structure at Bear school adn declares she's ready to go to her own school.  Bear likes this one because of all the mess the bear creates.

Ordinary Oscar - There's a wonderful message to this story to be happy with whom you are and what you've been handed in life.  Ordinary Oscar wants to be different and thinks his life is pretty boring.  He seeks the wisdom of the old snail and gets granted some wishes from his Fairy Godsnail.  Oscar soon realizes that being greenish brown and eating lettuce is a wonderful thing.

Don't Read This Book - I love fractured fairytales and this book fits this category.  I liked the different styles of illustrations within the book.  The style reminded me of The Fox in the Dark, and then I realized that Deborah Allwright illustrated both books. Bear thought the book was funny.

ABC Animal Jamboree - J-jo loves this colorful animal ABC book.  The bright illustrations would look cheerful framed in a nursery.  The rhymes roll well.  The only thing I would change is the animal for A and G.  I teach my children letter sounds before letter names so it reads funny to say guh and then have a giraffe or to say aaah and then angelfish.  Aaah alligator and Guh gorilla would work better for us:)  However, most alphabet books have this problem, so the children just learn early that letters can have two sounds. I would still recommend this book or buy it myself to give as a gift.

J-jo also loves Bear Wants More (not a Tiger Tales book).  Interestingly, he won't let me read any of the other books from the series, only this one.  I'm thinking it must something about the word, "more."

Disclaimer: Thank you to Tiger Tales for sending us such great books.   The opinions of the books are my own (and Bear's).

  2. Bear With Sticky Paws and ABC were most popular here too even though daughter liked all Tiger Tales books. I still plan to play out Don't Read This Book with puppets one of these days.

  4. Hello, I'm a relative new comer to the Tiger Tales books. I have a grandson, almost two years old and when I started buying books for him I noticed that his favorites are published by Tiger Tales. Now I just look for books by Tiger Tales, knowing that he'll love them. So do I!
