Montessori Monday

Although I posted a School Corner wrap up post yesterday (and it featured some Montessori work), this post shows more Montessori work Bear chose throughout the week.  Bear never has a long work period with her materials the way she would in a Montessori school.  First, she has a lot of distractions from her baby brother and second, when he is sleeping, we sometimes just want to play with the toys she can't play with while he is awake (her little fairies eat little red beans on button plates and use other tiny little things).  Hence, her work gets scattered throughout the day.  I hope when J-jo is a bit older that he will be happy enough with his own pre-Montessori work to allow Bear to work on hers.

Practical Life
Pouring through a funnel.
First, with small shiny beads.
Then with water.

Sensorial
One day we did a lot with the geometric solids.
First, Bear matched them to the face cards.
Then she matched geometric solid faces to each other.
Then she went and got our geometric forms shape and size sorter and made a very tall tower.
And then sorted them back into the sorter.  They aren't in order of size because, "I don't want to build stairs, Mommy."

Math
Number rods.  (These never get chosen and this day Bear worked with them for a complete cycle, completing the activity.)
More coloring of the bead stairs, although it wasn't as popular this week.  This week, she traced and cut the numbers and pasted them onto the sheet.
The hundred board that I just made got used at the end of the week.

Writing
Bear likes to write out lists a lot.  This week, I showed her how she could actually write her lists out using the alphabet.  She did well with "milk".
And actually quite well with "letter" too!

  1. Bear is such a capable little girl. I wish I had more time with Anna during the week - she mostly just wants to play when I am home.
