Not Back to School Blog Hop - A Day in the Life of our New School Year

Not too long ago I posted "A day in the life..."  Our schedule has changed somewhat for the new year, and I am amazed in what two months have done for J-jo - he has matured with regards to following a schedule and being in the schoolroom with us.  He is more willing to join in school and when his turn is done, he will even ask me why I am not teaching him anymore.

Now that summer is "over" I set the alarm and wake the kids at 7:00 am.  The rule is "dressed before breakfast."  We've got our own Before 8:30 am list (which I learned about at Hodgepodge).

*Wake up
*Get dressed and make beds
*Eat breakfast and do J-jo's reading lesson (using The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading and All About Reading level 1 as guides, but really doing my own program)
*read Bible
*Memory verses
*CC Memory Work
*Brush teeth
*Piano

As soon as piano is done, we head upstairs for Calendar with J-jo.  Bear works on a logic game or logic worksheet.



After calendar is done, it's math time with Bear. Sometimes her work is independent enough (Miquon) that I can continue to work with J-jo, in which case, we will do his MEP math lesson or a workbox together.


The order of Bear's day is typically Logic, Math, Spelling, Writing, Grammar, Read Alouds for Science and History.  Then we have the extras such as...

 Nature Studies in the yard
Art

Science and History projects and more read alouds
Spanish and French and Latin

These extras are staggered throughout the week.  We're still in the process of working them all in!  

The kids get a break after lunch and rest until around 3pm.  Then their extra-curricular stuff usually starts.  Thursdays and Fridays occasionally have field trips, planned through our local homeschool group and Classical Conversations group.

We school year round with more emphasis on nature studies, science and projects in the summer, but the above routine is for the August to May session.  The summer routine is much different and averages to three mornings per week of work.

    Sounds like quite a busy day! Do they get confused learning so many languages at once?

    I like the idea of having logic puzzles. I still enjoy them, I might need to work on getting some more...........

    It looks like you found something that works for your family. I wonder if I would ever be able to get Anna into any sort of routine. She is able to do structured studies in school, but peer pressure helps there :)
