Tiger Tales books

A while back, we received a box of books from Tiger Tales.  I've been bringing them out bit by bit to make the fun last longer.  Here are four more that we've enjoyed.

Hey, Diddle, Diddle .  This thickly padded board book with rounded corners would be a great addition to a baby's book collection and would make a great baby shower gift.  Toddlers too will enjoy hearing their favorite nursery rhymes, while parents won't have to worry about delicate pages.  Hannah Wood's illustrations are child like and cute.  If you prefer high art, then this book isn't for your bookshelf.  I liked that this book included less common rhymes, like "Down at the Station."

At the Boardwalk is a rhyming book with a predictable pattern - good for the pre-reader to practice "reading" along.

At the boardwalk by the sea days are spent with family

Life relaxes; time is free at the boardwalk by the sea.

This book would go well with a 5 senses theme as the author takes you along a stroll on the boardwalk and through her words you experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of the boardwalk. The soft pastel illustrations depict the words and the passing of the day perfectly.  The first illustration in the book lends itself well to a lesson about perspective.  This would be the perfect gift for a summer birthday or before a beach vacation. 

The Bump is a wonderful rhyming book that illustrates a mom's love for her baby from before the time it is born.

She treasured the bump like she treasures you, and the bump - like her love- grew and grew and grew.  It grew and grew like anything, until her buttons all went...PING!!

Funny parts like the above quote are bound to make your child giggle.  Bear sure did.  This would be a wonderful book to read as a birthday tradition.

Another book about a parent's love is Mole's Babies.  In this book, Morris the mole goes searching for the perfect way to have happy mole babies once they arrive.  He sees lots of happy babies in the barnyard but after hopping, flapping, splashing unsuccessfully, he realizes that his babies don't need any of those things.  What makes a baby happy?

 "Love makes happy babies!" said Morris. And he gave his babies all the love they would ever need.

I love Rosalind Beardshaw's illustrations and how she depicts Morris' clumsy attemps at imitating some of the animals.  We have fun acting out this story by hopping and flapping and splashing like Morris.
