Here are some of our ocean-themed trays. I do have more project-oriented ideas, but don't know if we will get to them. I'll post as we do things.
Sensorial:
Matching shells to shell outlines (I traced the shells on cardstock).
Sorting shells.
Math:
(more for J-jo than Bear)
Counting with one-to-one correspondence. These shells ended up replacing the ping pong and golf balls at this water station.
So this became the counting and one-to-one correspondence work.
Science:
Matching the plastic animals to the classification cards I made.
French:
Our pretend game was to go fishing for fish. The fish were under the silk shawl, but Bear had just finished getting them all and we were just finishing counting them by five (in French). These items are kept in a basket by our calendar and they can play with them whenever they like.
I wrote out the French words for some ocean animal stickers I had and had Bear find the stickers as I read her the words.
Linked to Preschool Corner and Tot School.
I like the classification card set up you have. You always make this look so appealing.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas! I love the sea shell outline game and the catching shells with a net!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Activities..Love the trays too : )
ReplyDeletethanks for posting this! i was thinking of ocean theme too. i'm just curious though as to how you organize your plastic animals. i have a few already, like farm animals, zoo/safari animals, ocean animals. do you store/keep them according to their theme? mine's a little bit disorganized now since i also use my animals on our "great alphabet sort" (inspired by your blog). so i'm torn whether to store them according to them or according to letter sounds. thanks!
ReplyDelete@Tigerlily - I just keep all our plastic animals in an open tin on a spare shelf in the playroom, near the blocks. The kids play with them a lot alone, apart from school. When I need them for school, I help myself to the ones I need for the work I am planning.
ReplyDeletelove the language practise. we are bilingual at home but yet to start with any activities for the 2nd language. like those small figurine. always have problem finding cute and reasonable price small animals figure.
ReplyDelete@Chi Hua Hua - I buy Toobs from Michael's and Joann's when I have 40 and 50 percent off coupons. We've been accumulating our little animals for two years now.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! I love the idea of tracing the shells onto card stock for matching - I'm giving that a try! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNice ocean unit. I like how you incorporated French into it. Bear and J-Jo are going to be two very well-rounded kids :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking out our Ocean Unit posts! I had already visited your blog when Carisa at 1+1+1=1 nominated you for the Top 25 Homeschool blogs and I LOVE all of the things you guys do. We are going to definitely be using lots of your ideas!
