Bear's favorite treat is icecream so she has been enjoying The Icecream King, a book we received from Tiger Tales. I think she would have liked to be the little boy who imagines himself as the king of an icecream kingdom where everything is made of icecream treats. I liked the message of the story that all the icecream in the world is not fun to have if you don't have someone to share it with. As with any Tiger Tales book, the illustrations are fun and whimsical and totally inspire daydreaming.
We've done icecream activities in the past so I thought I'd include them here as extensions for this book.
As an artist study tie in, Andy Warhol has some icecream prints. You can see two examples here and here, as well as the post of our Andy Warhol project here. We'll probably be repeating that project but with icecream cones instead of the Christmas tree.
There are lots of icecream printables at Making Learning Fun. Before I had a printer, I made our own icecream patterning activity based on the printable activity on Making Learning Fun (shown above). We rolled the die and chose that number of scoops to put on our cone.
Then afterward we compared how many of each flavor we had. You can see the post about it here. The original intent of the scoop activity was to copy the pattern of scoops on the pattern cards.
I just recently found this icecream addition that Bear would certainly enjoy doing. And I think J-jo would like this emergent reader (for us to read to him)
