(photo from October 2009 - Neither of us really looks like this anymore.)
B- I want to go to real school.
M-Normal school like your friends or Montessori school?
B-Montessori school.
M- I thought you wanted to stay at home with Mommy.
B- I changed my mind.
M- Why!
B- Because I want to see what's on the shelves.
M- Oh.
Pause.
M- Won't you miss me? I'm going to miss you!
B- No!
M- No? (I'm doing puppy eyes at this point and feeling like crying.) But it's ALL day!
B- Mommy! I want to go to the school where you pick me up.
(We visited two schools in the Spring. One half day (far away) and one full day (close to us). Bear is referring to the half day school. I think when I said all day she had visions of not being picked up?)
M- Oh, Sweetie, we pick you up at both schools! At one we would pick you up at 12 and the other at 3 o'clock.
B- Come at 4. I like 4.
M- No, I'd have to pick you up at 3. Won't you miss me?
B- No.
M- Don't you love me anymore?
(What did I do? Why does she want to leave me? I'm thinking sadly.)
B- I love you, Mommy. I can still love you while I'm at school.
She can still love me while she's at school and she can love me yet not miss me.
But, I definitely can't love her without missing her. I don't think.

Bear seems to know what she wants. But maybe it's one of "be careful what you wish for" moments. Anna always claims that she would be happy to stay home instead of going to school. Will you consider sending her to preschool?
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwwww, so sweet. I know exactly how you feel.
ReplyDeleteWe are considering it, but since schools have already started, she may have to wait. I'll find out Monday. She is having a trial day at another school, one that I don't love and is a bit far, but I thought if she tries a half day away, I'll know much better if we are going to be able to go through with this. We looked into schools for her in the Spring and there is one (VERY close to us) that we love but I so wish it were only half day.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I don't know what i'll do if JC said that. She still prefers to be with me. I figure one day she might be curious to try it out but i'm hoping (crossing my fingers) that she'll be too busy having fun to ask!
ReplyDeleteAhh so sweet. Kids are so practical! L loves her school and I'm so happy she is finally there. The social aspect is so good for her and now I don't have to worry about tonging activities etc and we can focus on more creative and outdoor things in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Bear would love it but I hear you having her go all day. Such a long time for such a little girl. I wouldn't be ready for it either.
I can imagine how you feel but she is probably just excited at the thought of something new and "grown up". I've been told that I always liked school, even when I was in preschool.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter used to have huge stranger anxiety (and my son is already beginning that) so I was used to telling myself, "oh, she won't stay with anyone but us" or "she's not comfortable with anyone but us". She recently made me feel bad because she went to visit with her cousin and she literally started crying (loudly) when I came to pick her up because she wanted to stay. What happened to my little girl who didn't want me to leave the room?
Oh so gorgeous! (:
ReplyDeletePS Great to see a photo of the two of you together. So lovely. (:
PS Little Bird goes to Monti school 1 and a half days a week. She loves it and she gets sooooooo many wonderful actvities. I could never hope to do that many with her/ Though I think from your blog you prob can!! (:
ReplyDeleteAnd (shhhhh) I actually don't miss her (well maybe the first few times). She has such a great time, and it is good for me to have a little break and one on one with Little Grub. It is always so lovely to pick her up though and get the most enormous smile and hug. Priceless. XX
Awww, what a confident and adventurous little miss :) It says a lot for how you've raised her that she's so certain she'll be taking your love with her everywhere she goes!
ReplyDeleteAww yaa I know what that feels like. My mother in law bought my daughter a back pack and now my daughter keeps asking me to go to school and on the school bus!
