Some practical life I have set up for our last week in Costa Rica.
Slipping buttons through a slit in a lid on a tin can.
(This idea was borrowed from Leptir, a wonderful Montessori blog)
Using tweezers to transfer pompoms from one baby food jar to another, which she did last week too.
Key in a lock.
Nuts and Bolts.
Lining up flat marbles on popsicle sticks. This one is good for hand-eye coordination.
Dry pouring of beans.
Spooning of beans
Pouring of buttons
(a Bear request - she tells me which new activities she wants out on her shelf at night when she is falling asleep. I added the tweezers for her to try, but she never uses them more than for a couple tries.))
Pouring of marbles
Pouring water from the pitcher to the bowl, in preparation for face washing.
She's mastered hand washing already and now we need to work on the face washing, especially the wringing out of the washcloth.
Lining up buttons on the popsicle sticks
Bear always chooses the pouring and spooning and largely ignores the lock and nuts and bolts.
We haven't gotten to the pouring water from the pitcher to the bowl yet, but she did wash all the lunch dishes for me - and no, I'm not kidding; she actually said, "Mommy, get bowl on island, still have to wash more dishes, Mommy!" and proceeded to ask for all the dishes still on the table. My husband happily stated, "Oh good, I won't have to do dishes anymore!" LOL.

I love the transferring activities. I need to do some of these with Mateo. How do you feel about leaving Costa Rica so soon?
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you over at my blog.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm supposed to let you know that I have an award for you on my blog. :)

Cute ideas! We love transfer activities too!
ReplyDeleteI am very impressed that you still manage to find time for all the activities while packing to leave. I feel that we are very poorly setup to do transfer activities, maybe that's why Anna was never really interested in them - she doesn't like spilling things and dropping things, so her perfectionist tendencies take over. I think we will do more of them outside when the weather improves.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking :-)
ReplyDeleteMy son loves the transferring activities, and you've mentioned some good ones. I have tried the key and lock and nuts and bolts activities with my son before, expecting them to be a big hit, but he just wasn't interested.
ReplyDeleteHooray on having a helper to wash the dishes!!
What a nice variety of activities. I love that your daughter requests certain ones!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I don't have the personality to do all of these cool Montessori activities. I see them and they look so cool on other blogs, and then I try it, and it doesn't turn out that way.
ReplyDeleteBut, this does remind me that I wanted to do the nuts and bolts. I'm sure that will be popular here, if my kids attempts at taking things apart are any indication.
What a wonderful site you have! Thank you for all the great ideas!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful! You are sooo creative and positive. I get frustrated when there's no budget to buy Montessori materials, and here you are making it happen like magic. CONGRATULATIONS! And thanks for being so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a selection of great activities. I love learning about new PL activities.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the Happy 101 Award- it is such a sweet award and I really appreciate you thinking of me for this. (I have been MIA in the blogosphere over the last week or so, especially in terms of visiting blogs as Savvy and Blakie both have been unwell and having a lot of trouble settling and sleeping at night. They are now on the mend, so hopefully, I will be back to commenting a little more regularly)
You have such great activities here. After some thought I've decided to do more PL activities with Matthew and less academic stuff for the time being... I'm getting some great ideas from you (as always), so keep them coming! :) And... this is your last week in Costa Rica?!? You seem so much calmer than I would be if I had as much to do as you must have! Good luck with everything!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love your activities!
