Toys My Child Will Actually Play With

Fisher Price Little People

Another toy my daughter loves is the Little People by Fisher Price.
I like that they are open ended and encourage story telling.
Actually, I consider them only partly open ended because each character is dressed a particular way, holding a particular item or object.
This limits them in my mind; however, Bear doesn't really pay attention to those things in her play.

Her favorite item is this dollhouse. I bought this new on Craigslist for a really good deal. I don't actually think this model is available anymore.

I like that these toys encourage her pretend play, but I wish they didn't make sounds. When the batteries run out, I won't be replacing them.

  1. I am with you on toys being quiet. That's why I ruled out Little People from day one. We have Playmobil and Lego people as well as Smurfs, but so far Anna has been sort of cool to all of them.

  2. I totally agree with the no sounds rule too - I hate (well, that's a strong word, but sometimes it fits) toys that take all the imagination out of playing. M is drawn to that too - who wouldn't be with all the flashing lights and sounds, etc. We normally do not put batteries in something if it takes them (normally gifts he receives from others). I LOVE the FP Little People though, and we do have the zoo which makes some noises (letters and animal noises). It's bearable and I feel serves a purpose. Sorry to go on and on... :)

  3. My daughter always really loved little people like her farm but when we got her the little people abc zoo not so much. I think it's because it's not as open ended and seems more limited. I think you're right about the house, I don't like the new one as much, it's not as big. I got ours used at a garage sale and ER loves it.

  4. My kids love Little People too. We've gotten all of ours as hand-me-down toys from friends, and they seem to last really well.

  5. Thanks for linking up! We have the LP airplane. It was gift for D's birthday last year. Both boys love to play with it. They usually don't play with the people though. They just like to fly it around the room.

  6. My daughter loves Little People. She's named most of them, and they go on all sorts of adventures together. She doesn't bother with the sounds much anymore, but for my sanity, I scotch-taped the speakers on each one after we got it so that the sound would be muted (why do they have to be so LOUD?!).

  7. Why don't you just leave the batteries out? None of our Little People stuff growing up had sounds.
