Last week, I mentioned that Bear's favorite playthings are not actually real toys.
However,
Bear does have real toys she loves.

Bear does have real toys she loves.
One of these is her Duplo by Lego.
She loves to build towers.
She loves to build towers.
I love that we can practice patterning with them.
- The quality is terrific. I much prefer Duplo to Megablocks.
- They are a wonderful open ended toy. The possibilities for building are endless (though limited by how many building blocks you own)
- You can do things like practice patterning with the blocks.
- Because the blocks interlock, your creation can't be demolished as easily as with wooden building blocks.
- Some of the Duplo sets do come with too many animals or people and not enough building blocks.
- If you don't own enough blocks, it limits what you can build.

Duplos are one of the most popular toys in our house too. We've bought all of ours at yard sales - they last forever and can easily be cleaned up. And the older sets came with a higher ratio of blocks to people, so they are better for building.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you on the quality of duplos compared to megablocks.
I like those too! We do have megablocks which M seems to like, but Lego brand items do seem to be of better quality. Now that he is 3 I think we'll be getting him the small legos soon. All blocks are just So Much Fun!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have any limit on Duplos in here. We have lots and lots of them. I have to say though that my husband loves them way more than my daughter. I think that she is somewhat intimidated with what he can build - castles and towers and bridges. Still, I am keeping my hopes high that she will rediscover them one day.
ReplyDeleteStrangely enough, we do not own Duplos. D loves any kind of building material so I will have to check these out. Thanks for linking to my post!!
