stART - Coffee Filter Leaves

This is a great open-ended art project to do with any Autumn related book.
For older children, they can cut out their own leaf shapes.

I like this project because
fine motor skills are developed with the use of the dropper
and
it is a science color mixing lesson at the same time.

This idea came from Preschool Daze.
She does a most fantastic job of explaining what she did.
It was a very easy project and turned out beautifully.

We especially liked seeing our leaves drying on the clothesline.

* We did this art project after looking at a Pomme D'Api magazine my mom brought for Bear. The theme for the magazine was Fall.

  1. Your leaves turned out beautifully. I tried coffee filter coloring once, but clearly I had too much water - the colors were barely visible. I still plan to try again sometime soon.

  2. We've done several coffee filter projects, including leaves. I love coffee filter art! I did ours a little differently. I had my son color on the filters using markers, then he used a dropper of water to drop the water to the filter. It was really cool to see the colors spread out and mix together, and this adds an extra step of fun to the project.
