One of Bear's favorite new past times is to play restaurant.
The first time we played, I quickly threw together a menu.
And Bear immediately started ordering.
But, I wanted something a little nicer. Eventually, on a day when we couldn't find our menu, Bear and I sat at the computer and chose graphics together to make this much nicer menu, complete with prices (made up by Bear with some input from Mommy - "Well, Bear, $15 for a banana is a LOT of money. I don't think people who came to your restaurant would want to pay that!")
The other really nice thing about this new menu is that it is laminated. After everyone was posting about the incredible deal on the Scotch Thermal Laminator
, I decided to go ahead and get it!
The beauty of the laminated menu is that we can circle what we want to order,
which makes filling the order that much easier!
Using those circled items to refresh my memory, I was able to ring up Bear's order.
Thank you!

Note: As soon as my wonderful husband helps me, I'll have the menu as a pdf for you to download!

Great idea!
ReplyDeleteAre you happy with the laminator? Is it sufficiently nicer than contact paper to be worth the extra cost, in your opinion?
i love this post! My children and i love playing shops and resturants is one of their favs!! What a lovely time you must have had creating a menu and discussing prices! I great natural way to bring maths in to play!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get your felt veg? and the cupcake is very sweet!
I like your laminated menu and close-to-life approach very much.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to make a menu for some time but never got around to it. I just got the laminator too! Now, I have no excuse. Thank you for sharing because now I have a better idea about how to go about it! Do you mind linking this to the math links too? I think it would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love how you pulled together different things to organize this game. Anna loved to play restaurant for a while, but mostly she likes to make birthday parties.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great activity! I actually made 'shopping lists' for the kids with pictures of food that I have cut out and laminated. They attach to the shopping list with velcro so can be taken on and off. But I love this idea too!
ReplyDeleteI saw the opening picture with the menu and was thinking what a great idea, and then kept reading and loved what you were doing more and more! Great play ideas, thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so getting us cashier. :) It will be used often. Think games like this one are great way to teach kids about value of money.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great extension on restaurant play something as simple as a menu provides. Very clever.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! This is such a great idea. Do you think you can email me the menu as I cant download the file from the link that you gave. Thanks so much!
