Turkey Number Bond Go Fish Game (Printable)

>> Sunday, November 14, 2010

Here's a math game perfect for the month of November.

After you print out the cards, you can actually play Go Fish or Old Maid.  The instructions are included with the turkey number bond cards. (I did neglect to write that you should cut the cards apart before playing. Sorry.)

Number bonds are important to memorize as they facilitate mental operations later on.  The more one works with relationships and patterns in math, the better one can be at math.
Another pattern we work with is seeing numbers grouped in fives (as in 6 is 5 and 1, 7 is 5 and 2, and so on).  As I was exploring different math curriculum a while back, I stumbled upon Right Start Math and their wonderful little song (go to page 26 of the sample) for teaching this exact thing.  Bear loves songs and this one gets sung to me often.

Linked to Math Monday.

Thanks for sharing the download. I think DreamBox is built on Right Start concept as well. We read some poems by Jeff Tang (the name escapes me at the moment) that also reinforce number bonds nicely.
