We're a little behind in school in a way. The wonderful thing about homeschooling is that when the opportunity comes to go to an art museum, or to the swimming pool, on a school day, you just go. So we haven't done all that I'd planned.
Reading - Bear is reading up a storm of Easy Readers and feeling quite proud of it. "I can read this, Mommy," she likes to say to me all the time. No Mommy planned activities here. I teach her advanced code (like oa, oo, ai, etc) as she meets it in books. She's still playing Reading Eggs, but hasn't actually had time to this week at all!
History - We read Mummies in the Morning and did various Egypt related activities to be posted about in their own post when we are done. She has been listening to the Magic Tree House books in the car every day.

I posted here about the unit on matter we did. We finished up the cumulative experiments early this week. The "inflating a balloon" experiment was so impressive Bear kept asking me to do it again until I ran out of baking soda.
Her science journal page.
This is the "see a gas form" experiment. It didn't hold her interest as much as the flashlight did!
Art - We went to the art museum in the city and had a blast making art at their Toddler Thursday program. J-jo even kind of participated in his own way.
Music - Trying to remember to practice the violin is hard. We have to wait until Daddy is home to play with J-jo to practice and sometimes Bear is too tired by then. This week we haven't missed any days of practice though and Bear is improving very fast.
Mommy tip: If your child lacks interest or motivation, find a you tube video of a child who is doing what you want yours to do and show your child said video. I have found Montessori videos to inspire Bear to do certain works, and I have my go-to 3 year old violinist video too! Works like a charm. And Joyful Learner's JC has inspired my daughter to draw more and to make her own bed!

I think I've said it before, but I love your science ideas! And she looks so cute with her violin.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic week! Yay to Bear for progressing so fast with reading. It's great that you got to go to the museum too.
ReplyDeleteThat is SO awesome! I'm going to have JC look at Bear's picture of her playing the violin and hopefully, her videos? to motivate JC to practice her piano when the time comes! I don't know if I said it before but I feel like you and I have similar styles. I love your science, geography, math, and art activities!!
ReplyDeleteMy kids are the same way about baling soda experiments
ReplyDelete@Joyful Learner - It is Bear and my dream to meet you and JC. LOL! bear talks about JC all the time. If I say "Go do x" She'll ask if JC does x at her house.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as she can actually PLAY something, I will video her. She's only had four lessons so she's still got a ways to go.
Wow what a jam packed week! Looks like you had a great time with the science experiments. I'd love to see a video of Bear playing once she's ready. She looks adorable!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how a child's attitude will completely change when they see another child doing something. All of a sudden what was once too hard becomes easy!
Hi! This is Susan from Chasing Marcus. I was curious about how your daughter was liking Reading Eggs. I am in the same spot you were a few months ago with my daughter (currently 28 months) knowing her letters and sounds, taking the initiative to sound out words and correctly identifying (in multiple context) about 20-30 sight words. Do you think the program is worth it? My daughter really enjoys working on the computer. I just signed her up for a five week trial offer, but I would love to hear any feedback you might have. Thank you,
ReplyDeleteSusan
