Cards and Counters

Bear still counts faster than her finger, and sometimes the other way around, so cards and counters is a great way for her to practice one to one correspondence while counting.
Cards and counters is also valuable for teaching and reviewing odd and evens, especially when using alternating counters as Bear did here without my even asking her.

  1. I honestly think this method is the simplest and most effective method in teaching numbers. That and the dot cards and ten frames but they are similar.

  2. I agree - this is the best in reinforcing 1:1 correspondence. I am amazed with how many mistakes Anna still makes in Dreambox when trying to identify the quantity at a glance. I guess this is something that requires tremendous practice before it becomes automatic.
