Take a pile of coins.
Start sorting them.
Realize you have State quarters.
Do lots of matching.

  1. This is a brilliant idea. I need to look through my quarters to make sure I keep the one with states.

  2. I love your use of quarters and mixing it with geography! Definitely filing that one away for when we look at the states more in depth!

  4. I love the state quarters. I'm slowly becoming less enthralled as I'm trying to teach my kid about the different coins and having to explain the different backs. That's not so fun.

  9. I love your activity for matching state quarters and states! State quarters are fascinating, and this is such a simple yet effective way to introduce state map shapes and the state quarters. I featured your photo and post at http://livingmontessorinow.com/2011/06/30/montessori-inspired-patriotic-unit/
