Montessori Monday - Revisiting Africa

I put together our first continent box. It's still incomplete, but at least I've started! I printed out an outline of Africa and taped them to the lid and box. Then Bear and I put in her animals and I printed out pictures from the internet of different aspects of African life (housing, people, food, children, clothing, animals, landscapes).
Bear was upset with me over something and told me she was hiding in Africa.
Then I drew (looking at a map) Africa on green construction paper and Bear pinpricked the outline. I had to do the punching out part. She really loved this.
Look at her concentration! She did the whole thing in one sitting while I drew Asia on yellow construction paper and wanted to pinprick Asia too.There's a project planned once all the continents are punched out.
We flew her Little People to Africa.
And they got on a bus to go on safari.
J-jo joined us in Africa after his nap.

What a really neat idea. I think that is so cute that she decided to hide in Africa :)
I love the idea of continent boxes, and maybe someday I'll put one together. I'm slowly collecting the animals for it.

I love how you incorporated the Little People airplane, bus and people into this. It made me wish I got those for JC when she was younger.

I am playing with the idea of continent boxes too - yours look like a lot of fun. How interesting that Bear persisted for so long in pricking the paper - I just can't picture Anna doing that :)
I love seeing what you did with Africa. We just started studying world geography and are now setting out to each continent. I'm filing this away for when we get to Africa!
OH, you are doing so much for your children to teach them in such fun ways. I so wish I could do all that you are doing. When I read your blog I always come away with so many ideas. Now, to find about 12 more hours in the day to do them:-). Or, we could round up a few of these awesome bloggers and do some sort of super co-op:-).
TERRIFIC! I've been pondering how to teach Turbo some Culture and Geography in a simple way (for him and for ME to pull together). We're going on a safari next week (a surprise) so I'm looking for a little unit on Africa and the animals. This is great! Of course I'll link back when I post about it. The Dark Ages on my blog is coming to an end soon. Thanks for sharing your great ideas!
