What Bear is Reading

The Way I Feel by Janan Cain

This is a very colorful book that defines feelings in poems.  Bear wanted to hear this book over and over.  I liked how the illustrations, which were bold and vivid, really depicted the feeling being described.  Even the colors used helped convey the emotion.  For example, the page displaying "angry," had a lot of red.  The page with "sad" was quite blue.  This led to a nice artful discussion of how colors can convey meaning.

The Beginner's Bible by Karyn Henley

We finally received this book we had ordered from Amazon.  Thank you to everyone who commented on this post and recommended it!  We love it.  It has so many more Bible stories than most toddler Bibles. The stories are concise but retain so much of the actual Bible story at the same time.  I don't particularly care for the style of illustrations and much prefer the illustrations in our Spanish Biblia para ninos.  But the important thing is the text and if you are in need of a children's Bible, I highly recommend this one.

  4. The reason the Beginner's bible has so many more stories than a toddler bible is... it isn't a toddler bible. The age range for it is "4-7" (though frankly by 7, a child needs a Bible where they can look up the verses, etc. At least in the churches I have been in)

I just picked up God's Story for Me (http://www.amazon.com/Gods-Story-Me-Favorite-Children/dp/0830748121) for a Christmas present for my 2 year old. Anyone else used this? I love the length of stories -- seems to be perfect for my son's attention span. I disliked how many of the bibles had 2-page stories and this one seems to be 4-6 illustrated pages with reasonable amounts of text (about 4 lines) per page. Good length for reading at bedtime. I figure 1 or 2 Bible stories, 2 other books and over time he'll become familiar with the outlines. Then at about 4 we'll get a Bible with more details in it.

But am I missing something here? I'd appreciate knowing especially if they take un-accounted for liberties with the text so that I can find something else!

  5. "The Way I Feel" is cute, and another great feeling book is "Today I Feel Silly (and other moods that make my day)". My daughter loves it!

  6. Delighted to see that your children enjoy "The Way I Feel." One of the reasons we published this book is that it's not judgmental---you'll notice that Janan Cain doesn't refer to any emotion as bad or wrong. You may also want to check parentingpress.com for information about the new Spanish edition and the how-to-draw plan created with Mrs. Cain. Click on the "Teacher" tab and then select "Expressing Emotions."
